Siemens Mobility welcomed Mayor Luke Campbell MBE to its Goole Rail Village, showcasing the site’s contribution to jobs, skills development, and local supply chain growth while producing new Piccadilly line trains for London. The visit highlighted Siemens Mobility’s investment of up to £240 million in East Yorkshire, as well as its expanding apprenticeship and early-careers programmes and the Rail Village’s role in supporting future UK rail projects.

The Goole Rail Village comprises a train manufacturing facility, components facility, logistics centre, and a new bogie assembly and service centre currently under construction. The site produces 80% of Piccadilly line trains for Transport for London and plans to manufacture battery bi‑mode trains, reinforcing its position as a major source of employment and supply-chain opportunities across Hull, East Yorkshire, and North Lincolnshire.

Siemens Mobility currently has over 170 apprentices across the UK and Ireland, ranging from Level 3 to Level 6 in engineering, manufacturing, and operations. At Goole, apprentices combine practical experience on the Piccadilly line programme with studies through partners such as York College. Many from the first 2020 intake have already secured permanent roles, highlighting the long-term career pathways being created for local people.

Luke Campbell MBE, Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, said:

"It’s been brilliant to meet the teams at Siemens Mobility’s Goole Rail Village and see the work going into producing the new Piccadilly line trains. The jobs, apprenticeships and skills being developed on this site show the strength and potential of Hull and East Yorkshire. What’s happening here isn’t just about manufacturing trains, it’s about creating opportunities for local people and building a future where our region plays a bigger role in the UK rail industry – especially with the potential of making next-generation battery trains that could deliver more efficient rail travel here in Goole."

Mark Speed, General Manager of Siemens Mobility’s Goole Rail Village, said:

“We were pleased to host Mayor Luke Campbell at the Goole Rail Village and demonstrate the scale of Siemens Mobility’s investment. Our teams, including apprentices and early-careers colleagues, play an important role in supporting manufacturing and skills development in this region. The visit provided a useful opportunity to discuss how our operations contribute to employment across Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.”
