Teenagers arrested after alleged assault on train staff at Greenock West
Two teenage boys have been arrested after allegedly attacking train staff during a late-night service to Gourock.
British Transport Police (BTP) said the youths threatened and assaulted guards at Greenock West station before fleeing when the train stopped at Gourock. The service had departed from Glasgow Central, arriving at the pierhead station at 12.48am on Sunday, January 4.
A major operation involving both police and the coastguard was launched to locate the teenagers. Officers confirmed that both were arrested in connection with the incident. Enquiries are ongoing, and BTP is appealing for anyone who witnessed the events to come forward.
A BTP spokesperson said:
"Officers were called to Gourock railway station at 12.48am on Sunday, January 4 following reports of two teenagers assaulting and threatening staff on a train from Glasgow Central before fleeing towards the coast. Officers attended and two teenage boys were arrested in connection with the incident."
Teams from the Scottish Ambulance Service also attended the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 22 of 4 January.
