Tributes for Nala, the Ginger Cat Who Won Hearts at Stevenage Station
Tributes have poured in for Nala, a beloved ginger cat who became a familiar sight at Stevenage railway station. The six-year-old feline was often spotted perched at the ticket gate, charming commuters and passersby alike.
Nala’s owner, Natasha Ambler, set up a Facebook page called The Adventures of Nala, which grew to attract 25,000 followers. Speaking about her loss, Ms Ambler said she was “devastated” and that she had “lost a member of the family.”
She added that Nala was “more than a pet” and that the flood of messages following her passing showed just how loved the cat had been. On Facebook, Ms Ambler wrote:
"It's with heavy hearts that we share the sad news that our beloved Nala has passed away. She was so much more than a pet to us, she was a cherished member of our family, and we're grateful for every moment we got to share with her. We also feel incredibly thankful that Nala became a part of the wider community too. She loved every bit of the attention, affection, and smiles she brought to so many people."
Ms Ambler added that Nala would be “deeply missed by many.”
Nala gained wider attention two years ago when she released a Christmas single titled Meow, with the music video filmed at Stevenage Station. A keen explorer, she was fitted with a GPS tracking device and wore a collar with her name and contact details to keep her safe while roaming the neighbourhood.
