Emergency services were called to a railway line near Wyre Piddle, close to Pershore, in the early hours of Tuesday morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks. The incident was reported at around 5.30am on George Lane.
British Transport Police confirmed that officers attended the scene alongside paramedics, where a person was pronounced dead. Police have said the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the circumstances will be referred to the coroner. A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:
"Officers were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks in the Pershore area. Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, deploying significant resources including air ambulance support. A WMAS spokesperson said:
"We were called to an incident and sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer, and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Strensham to the scene. On arrival, crews found a patient. Sadly, it became apparent that nothing could be done to save them, and they were confirmed dead at the scene."
The incident led to disruption on the rail network. At 6am, National Rail confirmed that all services between Worcester Shrub Hill and Oxford had been stopped because of an emergency on the line. Trains began running again at around 8.30am once the scene had been dealt with.
