Teen Jailed After Repeated Stabbing in Morning Attack at Barnes Station
A teenager who carried out a violent stabbing at Barnes railway station has been sentenced to a lengthy period in custody following an investigation by British Transport Police. The attack took place in broad daylight and left the victim with life-threatening injuries.
The teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, admitted a charge of grievous bodily harm. At Inner London Crown Court on Friday, December 12, he was jailed for five years and will serve a further three years and four months on licence after his release.
The court heard that the incident happened at around 7am on September 26, 2024. CCTV showed the teenager and the victim talking outside the entrance to platform one at Barnes station before walking together into a nearby wooded area. Moments later, the victim ran back towards the station shouting that he had been stabbed.
Footage and witness evidence showed the teenager chasing after the man, pushing him to the ground and stabbing him several more times. He then returned briefly to the station platform to collect his bicycle before leaving the scene. Emergency services arrived shortly afterwards and the victim was taken to hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for four stab wounds and multiple internal injuries.
Detectives launched an urgent investigation, reviewing CCTV which showed the teenager returning to his home after the attack. Headphones recovered at the scene were later found to contain DNA matching the teenager, leading to his arrest at his home address.
Detective Sergeant Marc Farmer said:
"This teenager acted with horrific levels of violence in a sustained and frenzied attack, which he launched in broad daylight in front of horrified morning commuters. It is only by sheer luck that we weren’t dealing with a murder investigation, so I'm very satisfied to see him now put behind bars for an extended period of time thanks to our investigation. There is absolutely no place for violence on the railway network, especially not the sort of mindless violence this teenager carried out. If you ever need us or see something that concerns you, you can text us discreetly on 61016."
